Track and Field Turns In Strong First Day At Virginia Tech Last Chance Meet

ATLANTA (Feb. 23) – The Georgia Tech men’s and women’s track and field teams turned in a strong first day Feb. 23 at the Virginia Tech Last Chance Meet in Blacksburg, Va. The Yellow Jackets recorded a pair of event wins and had a number of top five finishes.

In the women’s meet, sophomore Jamie Ostrov led the Jackets, as she won the high jump competition with a season-best leap of 5-8.00. She was followed in the event by Jennifer Ledbetter, who placed third with a height of 5-4.50.

Tech placed three runners in the top eight of the 60-meter dash, as Jessica DeFreitas was fourth with a time of 7.62 seconds, Alisha McClinton placed fifth in a time of 7.63 and Amandi Rhett finished eighth after a 7.71 second performance.

In the 60-meter hurdles, Tosan Osaigbovo and Melanie Waits each finished in the top five, as they placed fourth and fifth respectively with times of 8.83 and 8.86 seconds.

The Jackets’ final women’s competitor was Mishanta Reyes, who was fourth in the long jump with a leap of 20-1.50.

On the men’s side, Tech’s only competitor, Clayton Porter, won the long jump with his season-best jump of 25-5.25, which was a NCAA Provisional qualifying mark.

The Virginia Tech Last Chance Meet will conclude tomorrow with the final day of competition.
