THE FLATS – After sending a smaller team to the Spec Towns Invitational last weekend, Georgia Tech outdoor track and field will be back in full force at the Tiger Track Classic on April 13-14.
The Yellow Jackets will join a competitive field including No. 17 Auburn, UAB (W), Alabama State, Arkansas State, Boston, Cornell (M), Florida State, Georgia Southern, Georgia State (W), Indiana State, UL Lafayette, Samford, South Alabama, Troy, and Western Michigan (W).
Georgia Tech is coming off a fine weekend in Athens where the women’s team posted several top-10 finishes. Shannon Innis exploded for a second-place finish in the 400m hurdles while Kendria Edouard led the way in the 800m with a fourth-place finish while Brittany Powell finished sixth.
The Jackets had three top finishers in the 400m as Domonique Hall (sixth), Innis (eighth) and Angelica Henderson (10th) raced well.
For the men’s team, Maurice Simpson continues his strong season with a fifth-place finish in the 200m while Bennett Hillier finished fifth in the 800m. Anthony Steets posted a PR in the 400m hurdles to rank in the top 10 of the ACC this season.
Wesley Watkins, Jr. impressed with his 110m hurdles time of 15.24 – good for seventh. Dwayne Watkins also finished sixth in the 400m.
