ATLANTA – After a record-setting indoor season and a successful start to the outdoor campaign, the Georgia Tech men and women’s track and field teams finally compete at home in the Yellow Jacket Invitational Saturday at George C. Griffin Track.
Joining the Jackets in the field is ACC rival Florida State, as well as Southeastern Conference foes Alabama and Auburn. Also competing will be local teams Clark Atlanta, Emory, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Morris Brown, Spelman and West Georgia.
Several Jackets who have set school records or met NCAA qualifying standards will be in action. On the men’s side, senior Chris Sinotte has set a school record and NCAA provisional mark in the javelin, while junior Bryan Swarn (400 meters) and sophomore Brendon Mahoney (1500 meters) also own provisional marks.
As for the women, sophomore Katie Griffin leads the way with a school record and automatic qualifying performance in the 10,000 meters. Seniors Dana Hall (shot put) and Angela Levens (hammer throw) have set school records this spring, while senior Nicole Campbell (800 meters) and sophomore Renee Metivier (5000 meters) have met NCAA provisional standards.
Saturday’s results will be available at www.ramblinwreck.com soon after the completion of competition.
This meet will be another step for the Jackets as they continue to build for the ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which are slated for April 19-20 at Charlottesville, Va. Tech will compete in the Sea Ray Relays in Knoxville, Tenn., next weekend.
