THE FLATS – Seniors Jasmine Kent, Perron Jones and Aaron Unterberger of the Georgia Tech track and field team were named to the 2013 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Indoor Track and Field Academic Team, the ACC announced Tuesday.
To be eligible for All-ACC Academic Team consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his or her academic career.
Kent majors in architecture and maintains a 3.35 cumulative GPA. The Garden Ridge, Texas, native placed 10th in the ACC Indoor Championships with an indoor season-best long jump of 5.87m (19’3.25”).
A two-time All-ACC Academic team selection, Jones owns a 3.48 GPA in computer science. Jones wrapped up the indoor season with a 10th-place finish in the 60 meters (6.87) and a 12th-place finish (22.11) in the 200 meters at the Indoor ACC Championships.
Unterberger is an industrial engineering major with a 3.29 GPA. It marks the third All-ACC Academic team selection for the Snellville, Ga. native.
Unterberger set a new indoor pole vault record at the Last Chance Invitational – placing second with a vault of 5.44m (17’10.25”) and earning a place in the NCAA Indoor Championships where he earned USTFCCCA Second-Team All-America honors with a 12th place finish. Prior to that, Unterberger earned third team All-ACC honors at the Indoor ACC Championships.
The Jackets are back in action Thursday – Saturday at the ACC Outdoor Championships in Raleigh, N.C.
