Three Women Track & Field Athletes Named to USTFCCCA All-Academic Team

ATLANTA – Elena Linn, Jenny Sims and Samantha Musil were named to the 2007 U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Women’s Division I All-Academic Track and Field Team on Thursday.

The USTFCCCA honors Division I individuals for their academic and athletic achievements during the indoor and outdoor track season.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, one must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.25 and obtain an NCAA automatic or provisional qualifying mark for the most recent indoor championships or an outdoor regional qualifying mark in their respective event.

Sims, a senior management major, finished the outdoor season with a season-best time of 4:25.66 in the 1500-meter run to qualify for the NCAA East Region Championships. She finished 16th in the 1500m at the Regional. The mid-distance runner from Woodstock, Ga. also ran a team outdoor season-best time of 2:12.20 in the 800-meter run. During the Indoor season, Sims had a team-best time of 2:17.84 in the 800m and led the team in the mile with a time of 5:00.37.

Linn, a junior international affairs major, qualified for the NCAA East Regional in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a personal-best time of 10:18.83, set at the Atlantic Coast Conference Outdoor Championships, where Linn earned All-ACC honors for a second-place finish. The Marietta, Ga. native finished 22nd in the 3000m steeplechase at the Regional with a time of 10:42.59.

Musil, a freshman management major, led the team with NCAA Regional qualifying marks in both the shot put and discus. She finished seventh in the discus throw at the NCAA East Regional with a mark of 165’08” to earn a spot into the NCAA Championships. The Dubois, Neb. native threw the discus 167’05” in the discus at the NCAA meet to place 12th overall. She finished the discus in second place at the USA Junior Track & Field Championships with a mark of 162 feet and earned a place on Team USA at the Pan American Junior Athletics Championships.
