ATLANTA – Three Georgia Tech women’s tennis players advanced cruised through the first day of the Yellow Jacket Invitational, remaining undefeated in the first day of the three-day tournament.
Senior Bobbi Guthrie defeated Furman’s Natalie The, 6-2, 6-2, and Clemson’s Anna Savitskaya, 7-5, 6-3, to advance to the Flight B semifinals. Sophomore Jaime Wong, an All-ACC selection last year, also advance to the Flight B semifinals with wins over Tiffany Eklov of Illinois (6-2, 7-6(3)) and Clemson’s Laurence Jayet (6-4, 6-1).
Junior Lea Miller advanced to the semifinals of Flight C by defeating Krista Thompson of Furman and Christina Oldock of Clemson.
Wong teamed with sophomore Mysti Morris to win a first-round doubles match in Flight A. Wong and Morris defeated the Florida State team of Allida Gallovits and Christina Denny.
Two Yellow Jacket freshmen paired up for doubles and won their first-round match in Flight C. Fallon Koon and Kristen Roberson defeated Rice’s Jeri Gonzales and Karen Chao, 8-5.
The Yellow Jacket Invitational continues tomorrow at 9 a.m. at the Bill Moore Tennis Center on Georgia Tech’s campus.
