Three Named Baseball Captains for 2022

THE FLATS – Sophomore Tres Gonzalez, senior Colin Hall and junior Chance Huff were voted as the team’s captains for the 2022 season, Georgia Tech baseball announced on Thursday morning.

A two-year member of the Georgia Tech outfield, Gonzalez has cemented himself as one of the ACC’s best outfielders – garnering an all-ACC nod from Perfect Game. Last season, the Sandy Springs native appeared in all 56 games, starting 26 in left field before finishing the season in center due to teammate Hall’s injury. He hit .279 for 57 knocks, 16 doubles, one triple and three home runs for 27 RBI, while also finishing fourth in the ACC and second on the team with 44 walks. Gonzalez also registered a .422 on-base percentage while also tallying 15 multi-hit and eight multi-RBI games.

A stalwart veteran of the outfield, Hall has appeared in a whopping 154 games and made 148 starts in his career entering his final year of competition. For his career, the Alpharetta native has hit .281 with 45 extra-base hits, including seven home runs for 83 RBI. Last season, Hall was sidelined after just 19 games due to injury sustained on March 20. He finished the year with 16 hits, two doubles, two triples and eight RBI, including a 10-game hit streak and a 15-game reached-base streak.

Huff enters his second year at Georgia Tech and has been a valuable member of the Yellow Jackets bullpen and is slated to start during Opening Weekend. Last season, the Niceville, Fla. native worked primarily out of the bullpen, finishing with a 1-0 record and two saves. Huff struck out 22 hitters in 24.1 innings of work. He started his first game in the White and Gold in the final game of the NCAA Nashville Regional against his former team, then-No. 4 Vanderbilt, going 3.1 innings in the extra-innings defeat.

No. 11-ranked Georgia Tech begins the season on Friday, Feb. 18 when they host Wright State at Mac Nease Baseball Park at Russ Chandler Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra and WREK 91.1 FM.
