GREENSBORO, N.C. – Georgia Tech softball graduate Maddie Lionberger, senior Samantha Pierannunzi and junior Emily Anderson were named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Team, the ACC announced Thursday.
To be eligible for consideration for the All-ACC Academic Team, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career. It marks the first honor for the three Yellow Jackets.
Maddie Lionberger, who graduated in May 2016 with a degree in biology and is planning on attending medical school to become a doctor. Throughout last season she maintained a 4.00 GPA and started every game at second base. She hit .273 with 21 runs and 38 hits, and led the team with eight doubles and two triples.
Samantha Pierannunzi is majoring in business administration and maintained a 3.50 GPA in 2015-16. She started all 55 games in centerfield, and led the team with 29 runs, 29 walks, and 15 stolen bases.
Emily Anderson earned a 3.56 GPA in 2015-16 in her major of biology. In the circle, she made 29 appearances with 23 starts and 20 complete games. She pitched 160 innings with a 3.02 ERA and a record of 10-13. Against NC Central, she struck out a career-best 14 batters.
