Thomas Named ACC Pitcher of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Left-handed pitcher Connor Thomas earned ACC Pitcher of the Week honors after his complete-game shutout performance over then-No. 4 Louisville on March 23, the conference announced Monday.

The junior portsider used just 96 pitches to throw his first-career complete-game shutout, clinching a huge road ACC series for Georgia Tech with a 4-0 victory. In addition to the low pitch count, Thomas also surrendered just two three-ball counts the whole day while allowing just five hits, walking two and striking out five batters overall.

The performance is the first complete-game shutout by a Yellow Jacket pitcher since Xzavion Curry went the distance against Wake Forest in 2018 and the third overall since 2013. The complete game is the fourth of Thomas’ career, moving him into tied for fifth (Kyle Bakker) in complete games during the Danny Hall era.

The Omega, Ga., native leads the conference in innings pitched (41.1) and is the only ACC pitcher to throw a shutout this season and one of just four league hurlers to throw a complete game.

The Yellow Jackets return home for seven of their next eight at Russ Chandler Stadium. The homestand begins when Georgia Tech renews Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate against fourth-ranked Georgia on Tuesday, March 26. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra.
