The 2005 ACC Championship: Quarterfinal Action

April 23, 2005

by Kacie Anson Hi there! Today was a great start to our ACC tourney, we kicked butt against FSU. After losing the doubles point and practically my voice too, we came back to win 4 singles matches in just barely over an hour. First, Ali swept through her match winning 6-0, 6-0. With her inspiration I was next to finish with a 6-1, 6-2 victory, then came Dasha with hardly a battle at 6-2, 6-3 and bringing up the rear to clench it for the Jackets was Shosho with a 6-4, 6-1 victory! It was a great feeling, we had so much energy in the singles after getting a slightly nervous and flat start in the doubles.

On top of a really successful day on the tennis court, we had an even more exiting day just hanging out with each other. At a very early breakfast this morning before our 9 o’clock match, we were already having so much fun. On this team, the earlier the morning, the more funny everything seems to get! After the match, we relaxed for a long and enjoyable lunch, some of us going to Moe’s for a southwest meal and some of us to the local Carolina Cafe (that had some amazing sweet tea!) Then it was back to the hotel for some relaxation and studying.

We went to the Stonewood Grill for a really nice dinner. One of Coach’s former players, Bobbi Guthrie, even joined us to catch up on some old times. And we can always count on Ben and Emma (coach’s children) to keep us entertained at our meals! The whole time though we kept thinking of our guy’s team who was playing at the same time. We had just learned they lost the doubles point and were dead even in almost every match. We wanted to hurry and get there to root them on because they happened to be playing FSU today as well. We were finally done and all goodbyes were said, we sprinted to the van and sped off to the tennis center. The hustle and bustle was really getting us pumped! We had some much fun, I can’t even describe to you the feeling we had. We rarely get to have matches at the same site as the guys, so this was one of our few chances to pull them through a really tough situation. But I guess we did get there soon enough or we just didn’t cheer loud enough because they lost a heart wrencher. It was a real bummer, especially since our men’s and women’s teams have really started to bond lately, we have been getting pretty close (a first in Georgia Tech tennis history, I think).

Alright, well it’s getting late and we have a big day ahead of us tomorrow and a lot of sleep to get in the meantime. Can’t wait to catch up with you tomorrow after hopefully another successful day. We play at 10 o’clock!
