THE FLATS – After leading Georgia Tech volleyball (11-3, 2-0 ACC) to a pair of conference wins, junior outside hitter Teegan Van Gunst was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday. The honor marks her second ACC weekly honor of the season (Sept. 7).
A native of Fayetteville, Ga., Van Gunst had monster numbers in Georgia Tech’s pair of wins over the weekend. Against Clemson, Van Gunst tallied 18 kills on 30 swings with just one error for a career-best .567 hitting percentage. She put up 13 digs for her seventh double-double of the season.
The Yellow Jackets were down two sets to none against Boston College at home. Tech rallied back and won set three, 29-27, to stay alive in the match, and won the next two sets to capture the victory. Van Gunst tallied a team-best 22 kills and hit .321 in the match. With 12 digs she added another double-double to her collection.
On the weekend, she averaged five kills per set, hit over .400 (.407) with 40 kills and 25 digs to lead Georgia Tech. In the ACC, Van Gunst is fourth in kills per set (4.47) and second in total kills (207).
Up next, Georgia Tech travels to the Sunshine State for a pair of matches. Tech takes on Miami on Friday, Oct. 2 at 6 p.m. on ESPN3, before traveling to No. 17 Florida State for a 1 p.m. match on Sunday, Oct. 4.
