ATLANTA – Former Georgia Tech men’s swimming standouts Shilo Ayalon and Jorge Oliver will participate in the 2004 FINA World Swimming Championships at the Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Ind., Oct. 7-11. The short course meters event will be televised on ESPN2 in each of the four days, beginning at 10 p.m. on Thursday night.
Ayalon is in his second season as a Graduate Assistant for the Tech swimming and diving program. The Tel-Aviv, Israel, native holds the school record in the 200 freestyle (1:37.70), 500 free (4:19.31), 1000 free (9:02.69), 1650 free (14:47.31) and 400 individual medley (3:48.31). The three-time All-American won his only Atlantic Coast Conference title in the 1650 free with a record-setting time at the 2003 ACC meet and will swim the 200 free, 400 free and 1500 free.
Oliver enters his second season as a Volunteer Assistant for the Yellow Jackets in 2004-05. After qualifying for his first Olympics in Athens, Greece, this summer, Oliver will compete in his first World Swimming Championships for Puerto Rico. The Jacksonville, Fla., native will swim the 50 free, 100 free, 100 butterfly, 100 and 200 backstroke and 200 IM at the World Championships. He finished his career at Tech third in the 100 fly (49.55), fourth in the 100 back (50.51), fourth in the 100 free (45.75), sixth in the 200 back (1:50.42), seventh in the 200 IM (1:53.38) and ninth in the 50 free (21.12).

The Georgia Tech men’s swimming and diving team will open up regular season action against Tennessee in the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center on Thursday, Oct. 21. The Yellow Jackets and Volunteers are scheduled to battle at 2 p.m.
