GREENSBORO, N.C. – Georgia Tech junior Jillian O’Neill was named to the All-ACC Women’s Tennis Team today, announced by league commissioner John Swofford.
O’Neill, currently ranked No. 42 nationally, earns the Yellow Jackets 28th all-conference honor and the 22nd under head coach Bryan Shelton.
“It’s been nice to see Jillian’s game improve throughout the course of the season and I think she’s well deserving of a great honor,” Shelton said. “I believe we have by far the toughest conference in the nation, and to be selected as one of best players is a tremendous recognition for her.”
The junior from Montreal, Quebec, Canada, is in her first year at Georgia Tech and owns a 20-14 overall singles mark, a 12-9 record in dual play this season and a 6-5 record in conference action. O’Neill has played at each of the top three positions this spring for Shelton, but has played from the No. 1 spot in the lineup since March 19.
In doubles action, O’Neill owns an 18-9 overall record, a 14-5 dual mark and an 8-2 ACC record. Since the April 3 match against Boston College, O’Neill has paired with Caroline Lilley and the duo is 5-0.
The Yellow Jackets being play today against Maryland in the first round of the ACC Tournament. The winner will face No. 4 North Carolina on Friday at noon.
