Tech's Mahoney Earns Regional Qualifying Mark at Cardinal Qualifier

PALO ALTO, Calif. – Georgia Tech junior Brendon Mahoney posted a NCAA Regional qualifying performance in the 1500 meters, and sophomore Neil McDonagh ran a personal-best time in the same event late Friday at the 2003 Cardinal Qualifier at Stanford’s Cobb Track and Angell Field.

Mahoney, who placed third overall, was the first collegiate finisher in the event with a time of 3:43.48. He is now qualified for the upcoming NCAA East Region Championships in both the 800 and 1500 meters. McDonagh, who finished 10th in the race, clocked a time of 3:46.85. He was already qualified for the regional championships in the event. Dan Wilson of Asics won the race with a time of 3:42.75.

The rest of the Jackets are in action Saturday at Clemson’s Orange and Purple Classic.
