Tech's Mahoney Advances to Final of 800 Meters at U.S. Track Nationals

STANFORD, Calif. – Georgia Tech All-American Brendon Mahoney advanced to the final of the 800 meters with a seventh-place finish in Saturday’s semifinal round at the USA Track and Field National Championships at Stanford University’s Cobb Track and Angell Field.

Mahoney clocked a time of 1:48.42 to advance to Sunday’s final, which is slated for 5:25 p.m. ET. Tech alum David Krummenacker, who is ranked fourth in the world in the 800, posted the top qualifying time of 1:47.43.

Bryan Swarn placed 12th in the semis of the 400 meters in a time of 46.31. Former Tech standout and Olympic gold medalist Angelo Taylor finished eighth in 45.85 and was the final qualifier for Sunday’s final. Derek Mills, another former Yellow Jacket great and Olympic gold medalist was 10th in Saturday’s round.

In the women’s 800 meters, Nicole Campbell placed 14th in the semifinal round with a time of 2:06.95. Nicole Teter ran 2:01.13 to lead the group of eight qualifiers into Sunday’s final.

In other action, Chris Sinotte placed 17th in the men’s javelin with a toss of 222’04.00″. Breaux Greer captured the win with a mark of 268’04.00″.

Portions of Sunday’s action will be televised on ESPN2 from 5:30-7 p.m. ET.
