Jan. 25, 2011

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Georgia Tech senior Sasha Krupina has been named ACC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for the second week of the 2011 spring season, announced today by the conference office.

Krupina played two key roles in Tech’s 5-2 win over ninth-ranked Northwestern on Sunday. Krupina teamed with junior Caroline Lilley to defeat the No. 30 team of Linda Abu Mushrefova and Nida Hamilton, 8-4.

The Moscow, Russia, native defeated the Wildcats’ Mushrefova 6-2, 6-1, from the No. 5 spot in the lineup to clinch the victory over Northwestern.

It is the second time in as many weeks Georgia Tech has earned the league’s player of the week award. Junior Lynn Blau earned the award last week after a quick start at the Michigan Invitational.

The Jackets will host the ITA Kick-Off Weekend on Saturday and Sunday at the Bill Moore Tennis Center. On Saturday, No. 25 Illinois will face No. 28 South Florida in a 10 a.m. match with the 16th-ranked Jackets facing the 30th-ranked Iowa Hawkeyes at 2 p.m. The consolation match will take place at 10 a.m. on Sunday with the championship match following at 2 p.m. Admission is free.
