ATLANTA – Georgia Tech’s Kristi Miller and Clemson’s Carol Salge have been tabbed Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Tennis Co-Players of the Week. The league honor is the second for Miller this season and first for Salge.
A native of Marysville, Mich., Miller led No. 3 Georgia Tech to a pair of 7-0 sweeps in league play last week as the Yellow Jackets moved atop of the ACC with a 5-1 record. The No. 6 singles player in the nation went undefeated at the top spot, improving her season record to 5-1 in ACC competition. Miller also recorded two wins in doubles action with freshman Sasha Krupina at the No. 1 position.
Salge, a senior from San Roque, Brazil, extended her singles winning streak to six straight as she helped No. 28 Clemson finish 2-0 in conference action last weekend. She won both her singles matches at the No. 3 flight, posting a 6-4, 6-4 victory against Christian Tara of No. 30 Wake Forest and a 6-5, 7-5 win over Lenka Hojckova from No. 42 NC State. She also teamed with Ani Mijacika in doubles, as the nation’s 20th-ranked tandem collected a pair of 8-3 wins at the top position.
Both Clemson and Georgia Tech, which will remain at home for the remainder of 2008 regular season, hits the court this weekend against a pair of common opponents. Clemson hosts Virginia Tech on Saturday and then entertains Virginia on Sunday, while Georgia Tech faces the Virginia Cavaliers first on Saturday before taking on the Virginia Tech Hokies on Sunday.
