COLUMBUS, Ohio – No. 3 seed Kristi Miller advanced to the semifinals of the ITA National Indoor Championships with a pair of wins on day two of the tournament, which is being held at the Racquet Club of Columbus.
Miller, ranked eighth in the nation in singles play, came from behind to defeat Duke’s 68th-ranked Jackie Carlton, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 in her Round of 16 match and advanced to the semifinals of the season’s second “Grand Slam” of college tennis with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over 11th-ranked Cristelle Grier of Northwestern, the tournament’s No. 6 seed.
“Kristi got it done today,” said head coach Bryan Shelton. “She really played some ball this afternoon, and it’s pretty exciting that she’s in the semifinals of her first National Indoors. We’re definitely hitting uncharted territory for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket program.”
The sophomore All-American now turns her attention to Stanford’s Theresa Logar, the nation’s No. 13 singles player, as the two will meet no earlier than 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Racquet Club of Columbus, with the winner advancing to Sunday’s final against either Alice Barnes of Stanford or Florida’s Diana Srebovic.
