GREENSBORO, N.C. – After tallying three home runs and 10 runs batted in over a 4-0 week for the Jackets, junior Tara Knudsen was named Atlantic Coast Conference Softball Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Knudsen, a junior from Thornton, Colo., led the Jackets with a .667 batting average (8-12) in doubleheader sweeps of Harvard and Mercer. She also scored eight runs in the four games. In the first game against Harvard, she hit two home runs for the fifth time in her career and drove in a career-high five runs. In the opening game against Mercer, Knudsen went 4-for-4 for the first time this season and hit her third homer of the week.
On the season, Knudsen leads Tech with a .333 average, nine home runs, 29 RBI and 28 runs scored. She is currently riding a season-high nine-game hitting streak. Over this stretch, Knudsen is batting .536 with four home runs and 14 RBI.
This honor marks her second ACC Player of the Week selection as Knudsen also earned the honor on March 11, 2002. Tech sophomore Liz Bartle garnered the league player of the week accolades March 3 of this year.
Up next for the Yellow Jackets is a doubleheader at in-state rival Georgia, Wednesday, April 2 beginning at 5 p.m. Both games will be broadcast by WREK (91.1 FM).
