Tech's Howard Named National Athlete of the Week

ATLANTA – Junior Chaunte Howard was named as the Female United States Track Coaches Association Athlete of the Week for NCAA Division I track and field, announced on Tuesday morning. Howard posted Georgia Tech season-bests in the high and long jump events last weekend at the Niswonger Invitational.

Howard won her 16th straight collegiate women’s high jump competition with a NCAA automatic qualifying height of 6’2″ on Saturday, Jan. 22. Howard also posted a Tech season-best leap of 19’11.50″ in the women’s long jump to finish fourth overall. The Riverside, Calif., native is a two-time NCAA champion in the high jump and competed for the United States in the 2004 Athens Olympic Games.

The Georgia Tech men’s and women’s track and field teams will be in action again this Friday, Jan. 28, at the Clemson Invitational in Clemson, S.C.
