Tech's Griffin Shares ACC Women's Track Weekly Honor

April 1, 2002

GREENSBORO, N.C. – After a stellar performance in the 10,000 meters Saturday, Georgia Tech junior Katie Griffin was honored as one of the ACC Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Performers of the Week Monday. She shares the award with Clemson’s Jamine Moton.

Griffin, a native of Stone Mountain, Ga., automatically qualified in the 10,000 meters with a time of 33:57.12 at the Stanford Invitational. Her mark is the best in the ACC this season and broke the Georgia Tech record that stood since 1994.

Moton, a senior from Glassboro, N.J., automatically qualified for the NCAAs in the shot put with a career-high mark of 54’11.50, good enough for first place at the Raleigh Relays on Saturday. She also provisionally qualified in the discus with a throw of 170’02.00.

Tech’s track and field squads return to action Saturday when they host the Georgia Tech Invitational.
