Kidd, a native of St. Petersburg, Fla., finished fifth in the 400m dash at last year’s outdoor national championships and is trying to become just the third female athlete to capture a national title after posting a sixth-place finish in the prelims. She will run in the finals at 4:10 p.m. ET.

Sophomore Jerome Miller tallied a 10th-place finish in the men’s high jump with a mark of 7 feet, ¼ inch, to lead the men’s team.
