GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Juniors Shanta Smith and Marcus Canty and sophomore Chaunte Howard tallied second-place finishes at the Florida Relays to lead the men’s and women’s track and field teams this afternoon. Smith posted a NCAA Region qualifying mark of 42’3.50″ in the triple jump, while Canty finished the javelin throw with a NCAA Region qualifying mark of 218’08”. Howard tallied a NCAA Region mark of 6’2.00″ in the high jump for the Yellow Jackets.
The women’s 4×100-meter relay team of Dana Rogers, Andriane Lapsley, Chaunte Howard and Melanie Waits captured the relay event with a time of 54.22.
Tallying fourth-place finishes for the Yellow Jackets was junior Zeb Sion and sophomores Brandy Depland and Lauren Reimer. Sion finished the shot put with a mark of 55’11.00″. Depland tallied a personal-best mark of 40’11.75″ in the triple jump.
Reimer finished with 4704 points in the women’s heptathlon; 100mH (15.71), high jump (5’2.25″), shot put (43’10”-personal record), 200 (27.71), long jump (16’5.25″), javelin (117’09”), 800 (2:30.67).
Rogers registered a fifth-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles for the Jackets with a NCAA Region qualifying time of 13.67.
Senior Michael Massey tallied a seventh-place finish in the high jump for Tech with a mark of 6’8.75″.
Picking up an eighth-place finish for the Yellow Jackets in the javelin throw was junior Greg McCormick. McCormick had a personal-record throw of 179’09” for the Rambling Wreck.
Sion tallied a 13th-place finish for Tech in the discus with a personal-record toss of 155’06”.
