Georgia Tech standouts Kyleen Bell (Rocklin, Calif.) and Regina Tate (Columbus, Ga.) were named among the 19 Atlantic Coast Conference scholar-athletes as recipients of the 2002 Weaver-James Corrigan Postgraduate Awards, as announced by Commissioner John Swofford. Each recipient, who will receive $5,000 to use towards their graduate education has performed with distinction both in the intentions of continuing classroom and in their respective sports, and demonstrated exemplary conduct in the community.
A four year starter on the volleyball team, Bell ranks fourth in school history in total blocks and sixth in kills. A two-time all-ACC player, she earned first-team honors in 2000 and second-team accolades in 2001. A stellar student in the classroom, Bell was a two-time first Verizon Academic All-America and four-time ACC Academic Honor Roll member.
Tate is a three-year starter on the women’s basketball team who earned third team all-ACC honors this season. A 2002 Verizon Academic All-District III second team selection, she has also been a four-time member of the ACC Academic Honor Roll. Tate is currently among the top 10 in career rebounds, steals and field goal percentage at Georgia Tech. In addition, she has lettered twice in outdoor track and field, finishing third in the high jump at the 2001 ACC Championships.
Bell and Tate will be honored Tuesday, April 4, 2002 in Greensboro, N.C., at a luncheon hosted by the Nat Greene Kiwanis.
