BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Georgia Tech men’s and women’s 4×800-meter relay teams recorded the second-fastest times in school history to wrap up competition Saturday at the VT Elite Meet at Rector Field House. The Jackets head back to Rector Field House on Feb. 26-28 for the ACC Indoor Championships.
The women’s 4×800-meter relay made up of Morgan Jackson, Haley Anderson, Christina Pensock and Samantha Kiblinger finished second in a time of 8:59.82. The men’s team of Andres Littig, Zack Fanelty, Brandon Lasater and Chris Burnett also took second in the same event with a time of 7:32.02.
“There were good efforts and solid results for the women today,” head women’s track coach Alan Drosky said. “They are close to putting it all together and achieving great results, but just not quite there today. Domonique and Jazmyne ran strong in the 400m, the 3000m women were solid, and the relays competed well.
“Notably, the 4x800m recorded the second fastest time in school history. Bailey Weiland in the high jump, Samantha Becker in the pole vault, and Carissa Tipler in the long jump, all had pretty good days.”
The women’s 4×400-meter relay run by Domonique Hall, Alex Braxton, Jazmyne Taylor and Angelica Henderson placed third with a time of 3:49.17 and the men’s team of Alexander Reese, Fanelty, Julian Darden and Lasater took fourth in a time of 3:18.72.
Caroline Kissel finished 11th in the 3,000 meters with a personal-best time of 10:11.73, while teammate Rachel Hammond took 13th in a career-best time of 10:15.89.
In the field events on the day, freshman Bailey Weiland placed eighth in the high jump with a mark of 3.53m (5’8”).
Myles McDavid took sixth in the long jump with a distance of 7.34m (24’1”) and freshman Ryan Thomas took 10th (7.13m; 23’4.75”). For the women’s long jump, Carissa Tipler took 11th with a 5.72m (18’9.25”) performance.
Samantha Becker took 11th in the pole vault with a height of 3.97m (13’0.25”), while in the men’s pole vault Nikita Kirillov placed eighth with a mark of 5.06m (16’7.25”).
The Jackets are back in action Feb. 13 at the Samford Invite for their final tune up before the ACC Indoor Championships.
