ATLANTA – The Georgia men’s and women’s cross country teams will return to Harry Pritchett Cross Country Course on the campus of the University of Alabama for the 2011 NCAA South Regional Championships on Saturday, November 11.
The men’s 10k race will begin at 10 a.m. followed by the women’s 6k race at 11:15.
35 different schools with 462 total athletes will take to the course for the meet that will help to determine the eventual NCAA Champion. The top-two teams to finish at the meet qualify as a team for the national meet. On Sunday, 13 at-large teams will be chosen to also attend NCAA Championships. The four fastest runners not on an automatic qualifying or at-large team will also earn a spot in the meet.
The Yellow Jackets have already seen success on this course in 2011 as the men’s team won the Crimson Classic, an 8k race held on October 15. With top-10 finishes by Patrick Barron and Shawn Roberts, Tech beat out 20 other men’s squads, including some successful SEC schools to take home the championship title.
The women’s team earned a ninth place finish in the field of 25 and was led by newcomer Katie Townsend.
However, the last time on this course the men’s team ran an 8k while the women took on the 5k.
