Tech Women's Track and Field Posts Three Provisional Marks at Virginia Tech Last Chance Meet

BLACKSBURG, Va. — Fresh off its first ACC championship, the Georgia Tech women’s track and field team posted three NCAA provisional marks Saturday at the Virginia Tech Last Chance Invitational.

Leading the way was senior Angela Levens, who broke her own school record in the weight throw with a provisional mark of 18.59 meters, finishing third. Other provisional marks came from senior Nicole Campbell, who clocked a season-best time of 2:09.29 in the 800 meters, and junior Jessica DeFreitas, who jumped a season-best 6.18 meters in the long jump. Campbell placed seventh, while DeFreitas was third.

On the men’s side, from sophomore Brendon Mahoney finished fourth in the mile with a provisional time of 4:05.05. Other solid performances came from Zeb Sion (16.68m) and Jonathan Spillman (16.20m) in the shot put, Reuben Houston (14.81m) in the triple jump and Michael Massey in the high jump (2.06m).

Joey Zins and Jeffrey Boyd finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 5000 meters.

Other strong marks from the women came from Amandi Rhett, who was second in the 60 meters (7.48) and seventh in the 200 meters (24.46) and Dana Hall, who was fourth in the shot put (14.35m). Jamie Ostrov was fourth in the high jump.

The Jackets return to action next weekend at several meets, including the Iowa State Classic. Tech athletes will be in search of qualifying marks for the NCAA Indoor Championships, March 8-9, in Fayetteville, Ark.
