Nov. 9, 2006

ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech women’s tennis team will conclude its successful fall campaign this weekend at the Kitty Harrison Invitational on the campus of the University of North Carolina.

Play begins at 8 a.m. Friday and continues through Sunday. The Jackets will face players from some of the top teams in the nation from last season, including UNC, Kentucky and William & Mary, in their final tournament until January.

The Yellow Jackets have had several players to standout this fall, including the trio of freshmen, Kirsten Flower, Amanda McDowell and Amanda Craddock.

Flower boasts a 9-3 singles record this fall, with five of her nine victories coming against ranked opponents, while McDowell has gone 11-3 in her first fall campaign, advancing to two tournament finals while winning another consolation championship. Craddock is 7-3 through the first two months of her collegiate career, with two of her wins coming against ranked opponents. She has teamed with Whitney McCray in doubles this fall, and the duo has captured two tournament championships while going 8-1 in doubles action.

Overall, Georgia Tech players have won six tournament championships while advancing to three others, as well as one consolation championship.

The tennis team will be the third Yellow Jacket squad to compete in the Triangle Area this weekend, as the football team faces UNC Saturday at noon and the volleyball team squares off against N.C. State Friday at 7 p.m. and faces UNC Sunday at 1 p.m.
