ATLANTA — The 37th-ranked Georgia Tech women’s tennis team captured its sixth-straight dual match win of the young season with a 5-2 victory over 39th-ranked Harvard on Sunday afternoon.
The Yellow Jackets (6-1) opened the match by capturing two of the three doubles matches to claim the first point of the match. Tech’s team of Mysti Morris and Sekita Grant downed 48th-ranked Sanja Bajin and Alexis Matire by an 8-6 score at No.1, while Mason Miller and Catherine Gunn defeated Sarah McGinty and Fleur Broughton by an 8-5 count.
In singles play, the Jackets continued to roll, winning four of six matches en route to the win. Junior Jaime Wong won her second match in as many days at No. 2, defeating 102nd-ranked Sanja Bajin in a three-set match, 7-5, 2-6, 6-2. Following Wong was Catherine Gunn, who kept her dual-match singles record unblemished with a straight-set win over the Crimson’s Alexis Martire by scores of 6-3, 7-6 (7) in the No. 3 spot.
Tech’s other two singles wins came at No. 5 and No. 6 as Mason Miller and Laura Ozolins both picked up victories. Miller downed Fleur Broughton in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0, while Ozolins defeated Lara Naqushbandi in three sets by scores of 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (9).
The Yellow Jackets will face their toughest test of the young season on Saturday, as they play host to top-ranked Georgia at the Bill Moore Tennis Center in a match that will begin at 1 p.m.
