ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech women’s tennis team will look to extend its six-match unbeaten streak and defeat its fourth-straight ranked opponent when it travels to Athens, Ga., to face fifth-ranked and in-state rival Georgia on Wednesday afternoon in a match that will get under way at 2 p.m. The match was originally scheduled for Feb. 22, but was postponed twice due to rain.
The Yellow Jackets (9-2) picked up their sixth win in a row on Monday, defeating Texas A&M by a 5-2 score at home. Last weekend, Tech earned its first win over Wake Forest since 1990, claiming a 6-1 victory against the Demon Deacons. The Bulldogs (11-1) enter the match on an eight-match win streak and have won 53-straight matches at home in the Dan Magill Tennis Center.
Tech’s improved play has come with a shakeup in the lineup, as sophomore Catherine Gunn has moved to the top of the singles rotation and senior Jaime Wong has settled into the No. 2 spot, while the Jackets have also welcomed back the services of senior Mysit Morris, who is returning from injury. Since moving to the No. 1 singles position, Gunn has posted a 4-1 record, including an impressive 6-1, 6-0 win over Wake Forest’s Karin Coetzee on Saturday. Wong has posted a perfect 4-0 mark since taking over the No. 2 spot in the lineup to help the Tech’s recent run of success.
In doubles action, the Jackets have been led by the tandem of Wong and rookie Kelly Anderson, who have posted a 9-2 record in the spring, competing at the No. 1 spot in the lineup. The duo has climbed into the No. 54 position in the latest ITA rankings as well.
