ATLANTA – The 17th-ranked Georgia Tech women’s tennis team will look to bounce back from a heartbreaking 4-3 loss at the hands of Clemson on Thursday afternoon when it travels to Tallahassee, Fla., to face Florida State in the regular-season finale on Saturday at noon at the Speicher Tennis Center.
The Yellow Jackets (13-7, 3-4 ACC) will be looking to even their conference record at 4-4 against the Seminoles, matching the school record for ACC wins for the third-straight season.
Against Clemson, Tech lost the doubles point for the sixth-straight outing and was unable to rally in singles play before falling to the Tigers. The Seminoles are currently ranked 73rd in the nation in the latest Omni Hotels Collegiate Tennis Rankings and will pose as another key opponent for the Yellow Jackets.
Tech’s individuals have been led throughout the year by junior Jaime Wong and freshman Catherine Gunn, both of whom were victorious against Clemson and are ranked nationally. Wong upped her singles record on the year to 20-11 on Thursday, reaching 20 victories for the third-straight year, while holding an 11-6 record in dual-match competition. She is currently the 48th-ranked singles player in the nation.
As for Gunn, she continued to roll, picking up her 24th win of the year in singles play against the Tigers. Gunn leads the team with a 17-2 record in dual matches and a 24-6 overall record. The 24 wins tie her for eighth on Tech’s all-time single-season list. She is also ranked 52nd in the latest individual rankings.
Following the match-up with the Seminoles, Tech will travel to Raleigh, N.C., on April 19 to compete in the ACC Championships.
