ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech women’s tennis team moved up one spot to No. 3 in the nation in the Fila Collegiate Tennis Rankings Tuesday, which marks the highest ranking ever achieved by a Georgia Tech women’s team in school history.
The Jackets moved up from the No. 4 spot in the polls after winning 25-of-34 matches in the Michigan Invitational, passing Texas, who fell to No. 15. Tech reached the No. 4 position once in the 2005 season, tying the Georgia Tech volleyball team for highest ranking by a women’s team, but the Yellow Jacket tennis team finished the season ranked No. 6 in the nation.
Joining Georgia Tech in the top-10 are ACC members Miami, who moved up one spot to No. 9 this week, and No. 10 North Carolina. Rounding out the top-25 for the conference are No. 13 Duke, No. 17 Clemson and No. 25 Wake Forest. The Atlantic Coast Conference and Southeastern Conference are tied for the most schools ranked in the top-25 this week, with six apiece.
The Jackets will begin the dual-match portion of their season this weekend at the National Team Indoor Championships, and will face Texas in the first round on Thursday at 10 a.m. EST. Tech, Miami, Duke and UNC will all be participating in the premier indoor tournament this weekend.
