Tech Women's Tennis Opens Season Against Chattanooga Monday

Jan. 17, 2010

ATLANTA – The 10th-ranked Georgia Tech Women’s Tennis team will open its 2010 campaign Monday when it hosts Chattanooga. The match at the Bill Moore Tennis Center is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.

“I expect everyone to be very excited because the start of anything is exciting,” head coach Bryan Shelton said. “I was very pleased with what I saw this week coming back off of a long holiday break and seeing everyone come back fit and for the most part healthy. I think we will be off to a good start come Monday. It is always nice to get that first one under your belt and go through the process of preparing for a match, playing a match, and evaluating it.”

Sophomore Irina Falconi, who is ranked No. 1 in the initial singles poll of the season, will lead the Yellow Jackets against the Mocs. The All-American won 30 singles matches as a freshman and was victorious at the 2009 Riviera/ITA All-American Championships.

Also returning to the squad is 2008 NCAA Singles Champion Amanda McDowell. The senior, who was plagued with a back injury during the fall, is one of the most decorated players in Georgia Tech history. She is joined by junior Sasha Krupina, sophomores Lynn Blau, Hillary Davis and Viet Ha Ngo and freshman Elizabeth Kilborn.
