ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech women’s tennis team (11-5, 4-0 ACC) will play in its final home match of the season when it hosts No. 21 Clemson (15-3, 4-0) Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Bill Moore Tennis Center.
The Jackets are just 3-20 against the Tigers and dropped their last meeting in Clemson, 4-3 a year ago. Tech is coming off three-straight victories, including a pair over ranked ACC teams to remain undefeated in conference play.
The Jackets are led by a pair of ranked singles players, Lyndsay Shosho (43rd) and Kelly Anderson (82nd), while Clemson boasts the two of the nations’ top 20 doubles tandems. Julie Coin, the ninth-ranked singles player in the country, leads the Tiger team with 20 overall singles victories while Daniela Alvarez is ranked No. 63 in singles play.
Prior to the match, Georgia Tech will be honoring seniors Sekita Grant and Maria Nieto for their contribution to the program. Grant, a senior from Orinda, California, has posted a 45-28 career singles record while earning 30 doubles victories in her three years at Georgia Tech. A talented athlete that transferred to Tech following a successful freshman season at California, she currently stands fifth in Tech history with a .616 winning percentage in singles play. A native of Madrid, Spain, Maria Nieto transferred to Georgia Tech following a two-year stint at Florida Gulf Coast University and has had a breakout year for the Jackets. She has recorded a 17-9 singles record and stands 16-9 in doubles this season and currently stands third in the Tech annals with a .620 career doubles winning percentage.
Following the match against Clemson, Georgia Tech will hit the road for its first away match since March 2nd when it faces Florida State in Tallahassee Saturday at 11 a.m.
