Tech Women Finish Second; Men Place Fifth at Indoor ACC Championships

CLEMSON, S.C. – Senior Brendon Mahoney tallied first-place finishes in the 800 meters (1:53.77) and mile (4:12.31) to lead the Yellow Jackets to a fifth-place finish at the Indoor Atlantic Coast Conference Championships tonight in the Clemson Indoor Track and Field facility. The 19th-ranked Yellow Jacket women finished runner-up to North Carolina for the second straight year, tallying 109 points, 15.5 points behind the Tar Heels.

Freshman Ashlee Kidd won her first ACC championship for the Jackets with a NCAA provisional time of 53.50 in the 400 meters. Kidd finished fourth in the 200 meters with a time of 24.27.

Junior Montrell Person became the first Tech men’s competitor to win an ACC title in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing with a time of 7.88. Person posted a time of 22.12 in the 200 meters to finish sixth.

Seniors Michael Massey and Amandi Rhett tallied second-place finishes for the Yellow Jackets in the 60-meter dash and high jump. Rhett finished the 60m with a time of 7.45, while Massey finished the high jump with a mark of 7’0.50″.

Juniors Dana Rogers and Shanta Smith garnered All-ACC honors for the Jackets with runner-up finishes in the 60mH and triple jump. Rogers posted a NCAA provisional time of 8.39 in the hurdles, while Smith had a NCAA provisional mark of 42’10.75″ in the triple jump.

After setting a new ACC and school record in the high jump in day one of the ACC meet, sophomore Chaunte Howard earned her third All-ACC honor of the meet with a third-place finish in the triple jump (42’2.25″).

Sophomore Andriane Lapsley tallied a pair of top-six finishes for the Rambling Wreck in the 60m and 60mH. Lapsley finished the hurdles with a time of 8.51 to finish fourth and tallied a sixth-place time of 7.59 in the 60m.

Finishing fourth in the triple jump for the Yellow Jackets was senior Spencer Irvine and sophomore Brandy Depland. Irvine had a personal-record jump of 49’1.75″, while Depland had a mark of 41’5.25″.

Both the men’s and women’s 4×400-meter relay teams tallied fourth place finishes at the championships. The men’s team of Brian Ford, Brandon Duckett, Jordan Crosby and Taylor Narewski finished with a time of 3:19.77. The women’s relay team of Rogers, Rhett, Ameca Williams and Smith posted a time of 3:45.99.

Freshman Jennifer Sims and seniors Barton Crist and Jennifer Lentz tallied top-six finishes for the Jackets in the 800 meters. Sims posted a time of 2:12.25 to finish fourth, while Lentz finished fifth with a time of 2:13.70. Crist finished sixth with a time of 1:55.16.
