Tech Women Capture Two First Places at Clemson Indoor Track Invitational

ATLANTA (Dec. 5) — Georgia Tech’s indoor track and field teams kicked off the 1999-2000 season Saturday with the women’s team capturing a pair of first places at the Clemson Invitational held at Littlejohn Coliseum. Team scores were not kept during the competition.

Tech’s squads combined for 15 placements in the top eight of finals competition, with the women’s team registering 10 and the men’s team placing five.

Sophomore Amanda Woodall won the 1,000 meter run in a time of 3:07.81, and was followed in second place by sophomore Eboni Crosby, who had a time of 3:08.08. Freshman Mishanta Reyas won the long jump with a distance of 19-3.75, while junior Destyne Jones was third with a mark of 19.2-75. Senior Ayana Grant was second in the 60 meter high hurdles with a time of 8.62 seconds, while sophomore teammate Nikole Jeffrey placed seventh with a time of 8.94 seconds. Junior Carolyn Krieger placed second in the mile in 5:22.07, freshman Cassandra Worthy was third in the shot put with an effort of 41-5.75, freshman Jamie Ostrov was fourth in the high jump with a leap of 5-4 and junior Alisha McClinton was eighth in the 60 meter dash in 7.61 seconds to round out Tech’s women who qualified for finals.

Freshmen paced the men’s team as Sharif Azim placed third in the 500 meter run in a time of 1:04.96 and Keith Schuler finished third in the high jump with a leap of 6-8.25. Freshman Chris Crawley was fifth in the long jump with a mark of 23-4. Junior Dan Brin finished fifth in the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:35.85 and freshman David Schmidt was sixth, just one-hundreth of a second behind at 2:35.86.
