ATLANTA – Georgia Tech’s women’s tennis team, ranked sixth in the nation at the end of the 2005 season, will begin play its 2005-06 campaign at the 2005 Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships this weekend in Pacific Palisades, California.
The Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships is the first of three national collegiate tennis championships this season, and the fall’s premier hard court event will feature the top players in NCAA Division I tennis. The Oct. 6-9 main draw of the tournament is preceded by two sets of qualifying tournaments. The 64-player, 32-doubles team prequalifying tournament is Oct. 1-2 at UCLA, and four players and doubles teams will advance from there to the Oct. 4-5 64-player qualifying tournament at Riviera, where eight players and four doubles teams will advance to the main draw.
The Yellow Jackets will have four players participating in the Prequalifying Singles Tournament, including 2004 All-ACC honorees Kelly Anderson and Lyndsay Shosho, transfer Tarryn Rudman and rookie Christy Striplin. Tech will also have two doubles teams representing the Institute in the Prequalifying Doubles Tournament, as Anderson and Striplin will pair together, as will Rudman and Shosho. Anderson, Rudman and Striplin are all seeded in the Prequalifing Singles Tournament, while both doubles teams are also seeded. Matchups for the first round of competition are listed below.

All-American Kristi Miller earned a bye in both the prequalifying and qualifying rounds, and the eighth-ranked singles player will begin competition in the main draw of singles on the sixth of October. Miller is one of at least 12 players that will be making their first appearance in the tournament’s main draw and the first player from Georgia Tech to ever compete in the main draw at All-Americans. She has also earned a bye with her doubles partner, 2005 ACC Tournament MVP Alison Silverio, and the nation’s fifth-ranked duo is scheduled to begin play in the main draw Oct. 6.
