Tech Wins Five Matches On Final Day of UNC Invitational

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Georgia Tech women’s tennis team closed out the final day of competition at the UNC Invitational with three singles and two doubles wins over members of the Duke and East Tennessee State tennis teams.

“We had a very productive weekend,” head coach Bryan Shelton said. “I believe this team will accomplish great things as the year unfolds.”

Sophomore Noelle Hickey defeated Duke’s Melissa Mang, 6-4, 6-1, in the second flight. In the fourth flight, freshman Hillary Davis finished off Jessi Robinson of Duke, 6-2, 6-1. Freshman Lynn Blau also finished with a win from the sixth flight.

In doubles play, senior Christy Striplin and Hickey won their fourth match of the weekend from the top flight when they beat Duke’s Robinson and Reka Zsilinszka, 8-3. Sophomore Sasha Krupina teamed with Davis in the second flight for an 8-3 win over East Tennessee State’s Tara Byrne and Karina Kedzo.

Earlier in the day, junior Amanda McDowell dropped her singles consolation draw finals match, 6-3, 6-3, to Megan Falcon of LSU at the National Indoor Championships in Charlottesville, Va.
