ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech volleyball team had a successful trip to Tuscaloosa, Ala., over the weekend, defeating Alabama, 3-1, in the Yellow Jackets’ first scrimmage of the spring. Tech won the four-set match, 25-8, 22-25, 25-21, 25-18.
“It’s good for our team to compete against players with a different jersey,” said Georgia Tech head coach Bond Shymansky. “Alabama has some good talent, and it was fun to spar with a team of that caliber.
“Our younger players like Brittany Roderick, Jordan McCullers and Mary Ashley Tippins gained valuable playing experience, and we need them to steadily improve this spring so that they can be ready to make big contributions to our team this fall.
“Callie Miller and Talisa Kellogg were strong attackers, and Stephanie Robbins played dynamite defense during the scrimmage. Our passing continues to be our top team priority, and we need Michelle Kandell to continue her steady play.”
The Yellow Jackets will continue their spring campaign by hosting the University of Florida this Saturday at O’Keefe Gym. From 10 a.m. until noon, the two teams will scrimmage and work through drills before playing a best-of-three-game match beginning at 1:30 p.m. Admission is free.
