ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech men’s tennis team (8-1) will make its first road appearance of the season as it opens its Atlantic Coast Conference slate at No. 16 Florida State (7-1) Friday. The match is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center.
“We have arguably the best tennis conference in the nation and we start with one of the toughest teams in Florida State,” head coach Kenny Thorne said. “We are playing our first away match and as much as we have enjoyed being home, we are excited about getting on the road together. We have our work cut out for us but it is a great opportunity as well. I know we will compete well so it will come down to execution.”
The Yellow Jackets will meet the Seminoles for the 55th time. Tech is 28-26 against FSU including a 4-3 upset win over the 10th-ranked Seminoles last season at the Bill Moore Tennis Center.
Tech is coming off a 6-1 win over Georgia State Tuesday. Guillermo Gomez and David North teamed for a doubles victory and they each picked up singles wins during the match. Tuesday’s victory pushed the Jackets to the program’s best start since the 1966 season.
The Jackets will return home after the match and will host Clemson next Tuesday, March 4 at 2:30 p.m. at the Bill Moore Tennis Center.
