ATLANTA – For their first track meet of the 2011 Outdoor season, the Georgia Tech track and field squads will host the Georgia Intercollegiate Invitational at the George C. Griffin Facility on Friday and Saturday, March 18-19.
The teams participating in the meet are all colleges located in the state of Georgia and include the Yellow Jackets, Augusta State, Clayton State, Columbus State, Fort Valley State, Georgia, Georgia State, Kennesaw State and Shorter.
The meet will kick off Friday, March 18 at 9 a.m. with the Hammer Throw. The field events to follow include the Javelin, Shot Put, Pole Vault, Long Jump, Discus, High Jump and then Triple Jump.
The track events will commence at 2:00 p.m. with the 100 and 110m hurdles. During all of the track events, the women will run first followed by the men. After the sprint hurdles, the distance runners will get a shot in the 1500m. The next event is the 400m followed by the 100m, 800m, 400m intermediate hurdles, 200m, 3,000m Steeplechase, 1500m invitational and will conclude at 10 p.m. with the 5,000m run.
On Saturday, the meet will finish with the relay events. Things will kick off with the 4x100m Relay at 1:35 p.m. The 4x800m Relay will start at 4:05 p.m. and the meet will end, as usual, with the 4x400m Relay at 5:20 p.m.
Both day’s are expected to be sunny and warm with highs in 80s, so come and enjoy the weather and watch the Jackets compete against some of the best competition in Georgia.
