Tech Track To Host Georgia Intercollegiate Invite

ATLANTA – For their first meet of the 2012 season, the Georgia Tech men’s and women’s track and field teams will play host to the Georgia Intercollegiate Invitational on March 16 and 17 at the George C. Griffin Track and Field Complex.

The Georgia Intercollegiate Invitational is a college only invitational involving teams from Georgia school and the two-day event will be run in conjunction with the Georgia High School Coaches Invitational.

Coming to the meet from around the state are athletes from Berry, Clark Atlanta, Fort Valley State, Georgia College & State University, Georgia State, Kennesaw State, Mercer, Shorter, and West Georgia.

The majority of the collegiate competition will take place on Friday beginning with the hammer throw at 9 a.m. The javelin and shot put will follow at 11 a.m. and the pole vault, long jump, discus, high jump and triple jump will take place throughout the day.

The running events will begin at 2 p.m. and will go straight through until 5 p.m. with the 100/110m hurdles, the 1,500m run, the 400m dash, the 100m dash, the 800m run, the 400m hurdles, the 200m dash, and the 3,000m steeplechase. There will be a break in the collegiate action as the high school athletes take to the track but the running will resume at 7:25 p.m. with the 1,500m run and will finish with the 5,000m run at 9:45 p.m.

On Saturday, the majority of the meet will center around the high school athletes, however, the college runners will participate in the 4x100m relay, 4x400m relay and 4x800m relay.
