Tech Track Teams Open Outdoor Season With Strong First Day At Snowbird Invitational

ATLANTA (March 16) – The Georgia Tech men and women’s track and field teams opened their outdoor campaigns on March 16 by recording eight top-10 finishes on the first day of competition at the Snowbird Invitational. The two-day meet is being held at Mike Long Track on the campus of Florida State in Tallahassee, Fla.

The Yellow Jacket women recorded five top 10s, including a trio of top fives on the first day. The two top finishes came in relay events, as Tech’s 4×200 relay placed second with a time of 1:39.34, and the Jackets’ 4×100 team had a solid third-place showing in a time of 46.96.

In individual competition, junior Angela Levens finished fifth in the hammer throw with toss of 144-3. Fellow third-year performer Dana Hall was sixth in the javelin, as she recorded a distance of 116-10. Rounding out the Tech performers on the first day was sophomore Jessica DeFreitas, who placed eighth in the long jump with a leap of 17-2.

On the men’s side, the Yellow Jackets were led by sophomore Sean Harrington, who placed fifth in the hammer throw with a career-best toss of 161-9. That distance was also the third-best in school history, bettering Harrington’s own throw of 160-10 last season.

A pair of Yellow Jackets finished in the top 10 in the long jump, as sophomores Chris Crawley and Brian Fraser placed third and tenth respectively with jumps of 23-4 and 22-3.75. Rounding out Tech’s day-one competitors were junior Joe Poliseo and freshman Kyle Rabbitt, who placed 14th and 24th respectively in the 5000 meters.

The Snowbird Invitational will conclude on Saturday with the majority of the track events taking place at Mike Long Track.
