ATLANTA – Georgia Tech men’s track student-athlete Olivier Deigni was named to the Verizon Academic All-America University Division Men’s Track and Field/Cross Country Second Team, it was announced Tuesday.
Deigni’s selection as one of the nation’s top track and field student-athletes gives the Yellow Jackets a school record five Academic All-American selections for the 2001-02 school year.
A senior from Abidjian, Ivory Coast, Deigni earned All-ACC honors as a member of the Jackets’ conference champion 4×400-meter relay. He also placed fourth in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles at the ACC Outdoor Championships, posting a season-best time of 53.16.
In addition to posting his most successful season on the track, Deigni owns a 3.95 grade point average in Aerospace Engineering. He is also a member of the ACC Academic Honor Roll and was selected first-team District III Academic team.
The Verizon Academic All-District and All-American teams are selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
