Tech Track Rounds Out Time At ACC Championships

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Georgia Tech track and field squads rounded out their time at the 2011 ACC Indoor Championships, Saturday. The men earned an 11th place finish while the women took 12th at the three-day meet.

The Virginia Tech men took home the title while the Clemson women earned an easy first place finish.

On the field side of things, Aaron Unterberger registered a sixth place finish in the pole vault with a season best and school record height of 5.11m while Jonathan Gardner launched himself into eighth place in the triple jump with a season best distance of 14.61m.

Julienne McKee and Jhanelle McLeod had success in the jumps once again this time taking sixth and eighth respectively both with season best distances of 12.69m and 12.52m.

In track action, Leslie Njoku took seventh in the 60m Hurdles after her second place prelim performance. Njoku finished in a time of 8.49 seconds in the final, notching a couple of points for the Yellow Jackets.

In the men’s finals, Doug Black raced to a fifth place finish in the 800m Run, crossing with a time of 1:51.66 while Antonio McKay, who qualified for the finals in the 400m Dash by winning the prelims, earned the DQ in the finals.

The Jackets all took part in the 3,000m Run at the end of the night with Mark Mendrek-Laske leading the way with a 23rd place finish in 8:27.99. DJ McMillan (30th, 8:37.63), Doug Black (32nd, 8:28.71), Joe Fulton (36th, 8:43.58) and Philip O’Brien (37th, 8:44.02) all followed. On the women’s side, Betsy Kim led the pack with her 32nd place finish, crossing the line in 10:25.48. Megan Brietbach was right behind her in 35th place with a time of 10:44.76.

Both relays earned an eighth place finish in the 4×400 with the men’s squad of Subbu Sivanesan, Hunter Clasen, Jay Oatts, and McKay combining for a time of 3:16.61. The women’s foursome of Jasmine Isley, Jenae Anderson, Kellie Christian and Leslie Njoku together earned a time of 3:44.76.
