Tech Track Opens Competition at Wildcat Speed Meet

ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech men’s and women’s track teams recorded a pair of top five finishes on the first day of competition at the Wildcat Speed Meet. The two-day event is being hosted by the University of Kentucky at Nutter Field House in Lexington, Ky.

In the meet’s opening event, the women’s 20-pound weight throw, Yellow Jacket junior Angela Levens (Syracuse, N.Y.), placed fourth with a toss of 51′ 5.00″. She finished behind Aisha Smith of Kentucky, who won with a throw of 52′ 8.25″.

In the men’s high jump competition, Tech sophomore Keith Schuler (Florence, Ky.) was one of four athletes tied for second place with a jump of 6′ 8.25″. He was followed in the event by Jacket freshman Michael Massey (Asheboro, N.C.), who was sixth also with a jump of 6′ 8.25″.

In the day’s final event, Tech sophomore Sean Harrington (Cumberland, N.J.) finished sixth in the men’s 35-pound weight throw with his distance of 48′ 6.25″.

The meet will conclude tomorrow beginning at 10:30 a.m. with the remaining track and field events.
