Tech Track Off To Kentucky Invitational

ATLANTA – This weekend, the Georgia Tech men’s and women’s track and field teams will head up Route 75 to Lexington, Ky. where they will compete in the Kentucky Invitational on Friday and Saturday, January 14 and 15. The meet will be the first of two times the Jackets will compete at UK this indoor season.

“We are always excited to have an opportunity to compete on the University of Kentucky’s excellent indoor track,” said men’s head coach Grover Hinsdale. “We look forward to the challenge this meet will present. I anticipate a very competitive atmosphere and a great effort from our team.”

Twelve teams will be competing at the meet on the men’s side while 14 will take part in the women’s events.

The meet will begin on Friday night at 6 p.m. with the weight throw, women’s pole vault, men’s high jump and the triple jump.

The events will resume on Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. with the women’s high jump and the long jump. The first track action of the meet will start at 12:30 p.m. with the 60 meter hurdles semi finals followed by the 60 meter semis. The mile will take place between the sprint semis and finals which will be followed by the 400 meter dash, 800 meter run, 200 meter dash, 3,000 meter run and will conclude around 5:30 p.m. with the 4×400 meter relay.

The Jackets are coming off of an impressive showing at the Clemson Invitational racking up 20 top-five finishes and three first place titles in their first meet in 2011. Mykhail Chambers, Perron Jones, and Joanna Wright earned the top spot for Tech on the final day of competition. For his efforts, Jones was named the Georgia Tech male athlete of the week.
