NEW ORLEANS –The Georgia Tech men’s and women’s track and field squads have been named one of the NCAA Division I All-Academic teams by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
The men’s team finished the 2011-12 season with a cumulative GPA of 3.04, while the women collectively earned a 3.18 GPA.
Six ACC teams were selected on the men’s side and seven on the women’s. Duke earned the highest GPA in both respects among ACC schools with the men earning a 3.46 GPA, while the women maintained a 3.58.
In order to be considered for the award teams must maintain a GPA of at least 3.00. A total of 85 men’s and 171 women’s institutions were selected for the academic award. The Florida men swept the Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Scholar Team of the Year, while the Arkansas and Stanford women earned the Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Scholar Team of the Year, respectively.
