Tech Track Hosts Yellow Jacket Invite

THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech track and field team is set to host the Yellow Jacket Invitational at Griffin Track Friday and Saturday. Action begins Friday at 6 p.m. with the hammer throw and the 5,000 meters at 9 p.m., while competition Saturday is set to begin at 12:30 p.m. with the shot put.

Parking
Fans wishing to attend the meet can park on campus Friday for free. For Saturday’s events, fans are encouraged arrive early for a spot on Fowler Street. Sixth Street and Techwood Drive will be free, while the Lower Peter’s and Family Housing Lots are $5. 

Attending Teams
Alabama (M/W), Auburn (M/W), Chattanooga (M/W), Georgia (M/W), Georgia State (W), Georgia Tech (M/W), Mercer (M/W), Middle Tennessee State (M/W), Ohio State (W), Syracuse (M/W).

Six Yellow Jackets will compete Friday in the 5,000 meters, and Ashleigh Uhl and Chas Thomason kick off Saturday’s events with the javelin throw at 12:30 p.m.

Georgia Tech is entered to compete in 26 events Saturday with several entries in each of the women’s long jump, men’s and women’s 1,500 meters, men’s and women’s 800 meters, men’s and women’s 200 meters and 4×400-meter relays.  

The Jackets are coming off a successful weekend at the Alabama Relays. Senior Jonathan Gardner, who will compete in the triple and long jumps Saturday, won the triple jump last weekend and was named the USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week and ACC Performer of the Week for his nation-leading mark.

Brandon Lasater won the men’s 1,500 meters and Jeremy Greenwald won his first-ever outdoor track 5,000 meters also at the Alabama Relays.
