Tech Track Heads To Final Tune Up At Seminole Invite

ATLANTA – In their final tune up before the ACC Championships, the Georgia Tech men’s and women’s track and field teams will head to Tallahassee for the Seminole Invitational on Friday and Saturday, April 8 and 9 at the Mike Long Track.

The Yellow Jackets will go up against some tough competition as they will see Auburn for the second weekend in a row (Men ranked 18th, Women 10th in the country) and will go against the host team in Florida State . The Florida State men are ranked first in the South Region, and fourth overall while are ranked eighth in the nation.

The meet will kick off at 4 p.m. on Friday with the men’s discus and high jump, with the women’s event s to follow. At 6:00 p.m., the javelin will start followed by the long jump and mixed 3,000 meter run to begin at 7 p.m. The night will round out with the men’s 3,000 meter steeplechase, and then the women’s and men’s 5,000 meter runs.

On Saturday, the hammer throw will begin things at 10 a.m. while the triple jump will go off at Noon. The women’s pole vault will start at 1 p.m. alongside the first track event of the day, the women’s 100 meter hurdles. The hurdles are to be followed by the 4×100 meter relay and then the 400 meter dash. The final field events on the day, the men’s and women’s shot put will start at 2 p.m.

The track events to follow the 400 meter are the 100 meter dash, 800 meter run, 400 meter hurdles, 200 meter dash, 1,500 meter run, the women’s steeplechase and will round out with the 4×400 meter relay at 4:45 p.m.

The Jackets enter the meet coming off of a successful showing at the Tiger Track Classic at Auburn University. Senior Joanna Wright set yet another school record in the pole vault with her launch of 4.22 meters, currently sixth in the nation. Shawn Roberts also excelled in the 1,500 meter run, upping his season and career best time by about a half of a second and moving up to eighth in the country.

Sprinter Jenae Anderson had her best weekend on the year, netting a sub-12 second time in the 100-meter and a time of 24.51 in the 200 meter while many men’s athletes improved upon their season’s best times.
